January and February are traditionally quieter months across our community, as many people settle back into routine following the Christmas period. At The Spearhead Foundation, we use this time to pause, reflect and plan for the year ahead.
With a new team now fully in place, the start of the year has been spent meeting with group leaders and local authorities to review our work and agree the services we will continue to provide as we move into 2026.
Since 2024, and throughout 2025, the Foundation has delivered a largely non-public-facing service in partnership with local authorities, GP surgeries and armed forces leads. This work has focused on accepting direct referrals and carrying out home visits for some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community. Particularly those who, for various reasons, are unable to leave their homes.
During these visits, our team works with individuals to outline recovery plans or, where needed, simply provide companionship and social interaction. These visits often highlight more complex needs, including issues such as hoarding or alcohol dependency. Many of these cases are challenging and deeply moving, but they remain central to our mission.
This work will continue throughout 2026, with a particular focus on supporting younger-generation veterans and others who need help the most. By working closely with local authorities and GP surgeries, we aim to provide tailored, appropriate care. All our staff are Mental Health First Aid trained, safeguarding trained and DBS checked, and bring lived experience of both the military and wider support systems.
The Foundation also remains committed to working collaboratively with other organisations. Throughout 2026, we will continue to build on these relationships, staying true to one of our core principles since inception:
“We don’t mind where people get help, as long as they get help.”
Whether support comes from us, another organisation, or through joint working, our priority is simple, ensuring people receive the help they need.
Looking ahead, the next few weeks will see the return of our Thursday sessions, an upcoming golf event, and our regular Coffee Club, a community coffee morning jointly funded by a sponsor and the Foundation. We are also planning a karting event and will share more details soon. In addition, our Breakfast Club in Wythenshawe, fully funded by the Foundation, continues to run.
We look forward to sharing further updates as the year progresses.
